Biography

My marital status is. Married

XYL/Kids/Grandkids: XYL Pam N0ICF now SK / son Grant K1KD / daughter Kara N0VTE

I got interested in ham radio because. My father (K0JGI) and I got interested in radio in 1960 & began studying together. We were both licensed as novices in 1961. This was a father/son thing and my son and I have had some of those same "common-bond" experiences since he was licensed at age 10. He made honor roll at age 27 and is an active contester in the state of MN.

My favorite thing to do in ham radio is. Because? I enjoy DXing, contesting, SSTV, satellites, emergency traffic handling, antenna projects, and mobile operating. More recently we have experienced a mini-dxpedition and hope there will be more and bigger ones to come.

I am a member of the following ham radio clubs. Eastern Iowa DX Assoc, Ottumwa Amateur Radio Club I am most proud of the following accomplishments in ham radio. DXCC #1Honor Roll mixed, #1 Honor Roll phone, need P5 for #1 CW. I hold 5B DXCC, 7yrs of SweepStakes Iowa phone lowpower, Midwest QRP Sweepstakes Phone, WAS (as a novice in 1962), WAS satellite. Past president of the 3 clubs listed.

The biggest pileup I ever heard was K5D as operator there in Feb 2009. From home station good ones worked were. 3Y0PI and XZ0A on 160m from Iowa. Also, S21NQ for last country needed for Top of Honor Roll in 1991.

I would like to try the following new things in ham radio in the next 10 years. MORE DXPEDITIONS(more money to AFFORD more dxpeditions)

When I'm not on the radio, you can normally find me. On internet or planning trips.

Worked DXCCs:

Equipment

My equipment consists of. HF: ICOM 7610, Amp: Tokoyo HyPower HL 1.5 Mobile: CS 800 DMR Portable rig: IC 7000, HT: Icom IC-T90A. Antennas: 160/80 meter inverted V, Pro 57 (while SteppIR 3 element with 40/30 add-on is down with repairs) at 50 feet. 510 foot NE/SW beverage.

dx code of conduct small logoI support the "DX Code Of Conduct" to help to work with each other and not each against the others on the bands.
