Biography

I am a 69 year old 'fart', who recently found the time to take the Foundation and Intermediate Licence Exams, and then the 'Full' Licence which I passed on the 6th December, 2013 - all within about 6 months.

I have dabbled with radio since I was 10 years old

Since leaving the Army, I have worked all over the world as a musician and entertainer - mainly on holiday camps, and on cruise ships out of Tampa, Florida. In between contracts, I usually worked for ASDA (Walmart) as an 'agency' HGV Class 1 driver in UK.

I retired in 2009 at 63 years of age, and now live quietly in a retirement complex bungalow . Lots more information and pictures on my QRZ page http://www.qrz.com/db/M0OBU or my web site at http://m0obu.net .

I look forward to working you soon, and am quite happy to try 'skeds' if you contact me first via Skype or eMail.

Equipment

I use just two transceivers - an Icom IC-7300 and a Kenwood TS-590 with a Heil MC12 Mic on a boom, with a Capco 3000D ATU and 450 Ohm ladder line to a 120ft Doublet on a 40ft Spiderbeam pole. Also a Cushcraft MA5V Vertical at about 5 Mtrs above Ground level. For reception, beside the DSP on the radios, I also use a BHI Noise Cancelling speaker and a Heil Pro Headset. For extra whoomph, when needed, there is an RM Italy BLA350 Solid state Linear Amp, which I run at between 250 and 300 Watts.

Another (recent) interest, is 'Green Radio' and I have just acquired a PRC-320 Radio to use on my mobility buggy and go /P in the decent weather, if we ever get any '
