Biography
I started out as an SWL when I was 10 years old (1957), so I've experienced quite a few sunspot cycles. First licensed in 1979 as DJ0ZF after taking the examination at Munich OPD. I was a member of DARC OV C08 until I left Germany in 1981 for California. In Los Angeles, I first operated as G4JPZ/W6 then took the American examination to receive the General call N6OET, which I later upgraded to Extra while retaining the great CW call. I returned to Berlin in 1990 and operated as DJ0ZF again until returning to Scotland in 1996. This time in Berlin (90-96) I was a member of DARC OV D01 where I was made very welcome by the members. Encouraged by them, I wrote a book on English for radio amateurs (Englisch für den Amateurfunk) which was published by the Funkamateur Verlag in Berlin and is now in its 3rd edition.
Over the years I've operated as GA4JPZ, GJ4JPZ/A, G4JPZ, GD4JPZ, GQ4JPZ, 2S4JPZ, W6/G4JPZ, W7/G4JPZ, W2/G4JPZ, W0/G4JPZ, W3/G4JPZ, KH6/G4JPZ, YV5/N6OET, DJ0ZF, OE/DJ0ZF, HB/DJ0ZF, F0GVO, CT1/GM4JPZ, EA8/GM4JPZ.
Operate mostly CW, but also SSB at times. Also have the occasional FM QSO around 29.600, and now and then on AM around 29.000. Have dabbled in data modes but never really felt comfortable with them. Particularly enjoyed Feld Hell with its CW-like sound.
I am a member of the Deutscher Amateur Radio Club (DARC), AGCW-DL, CWops, RAFARS.
