Biography

Hello my name is Bill, I retired September 2014 from the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) working as an Air Traffic Controller at the Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton International Airport (KABE). I receieved my vanity call sign K3ABE, (now the c/s makes sense right???) on 5/10/2016. I also passed my Extra exam on 1/11/2018 and will complete the Extra exam in the near future. I started talking on the airwaves, CB airwaves that is, back in the early 70's, dont remember what my license call sign was but I do remember I had one. I severed in the United States Navy from 1977-1986 as an Air Traffic Controller, and then was hired ny the FAA in the same capacity as the Navy. In 1990 I received my first novice HAM Radio license, I quickly realized I love to do DX contests, however in 1994 I had to put HAM Radio on the back burner as family and work was more important.

I am currently in the process of making my new shack and trying to figure out what radio and antennas I want to use, but I know that DX'ing will play an important decision into whatever it is I do!!!! Finally decided to go with the Yaesu FTDX-1200 and a G5RV antenna, so far everything is up and running great. I will need to get the antenna up a little higher in the near future. You can find me using FT8.
